Crafty Recap of 2025

I wanted to talk about my crafty finishes in my last post, however it became too long with my life updates. So lets do it now . 

2025 was year I restarted crafting and blogging and I'm quite happy with what I achieved .

First finish of the year was this cross stitch wedding sampler I stitched for an Instagram snailmailing friend whose wedding I couldn't attend due to work . 

The wedding was in Feb 2024, I was able to send her before her 1st wedding anniversary. I love the vintage look of this project and quite happy with the framing too.

Second finish of the year was this Knitted scarf , gifted to Instagram snailmailing friend. I wasn't sure about the color, I thought it was gaudy. To my surprise , everyone on IG has liked the color.

40th Birthday gift for my penpal, I was late only by 1.5 years

My next finish is a freebie from Silvercreek Samplers which was a SAL with a Instagram friend. This one I'm keeping for myself.

Knitted washcloths were my next finish, gift for husband's colleague

Husband asked for gloves, I knitted mitten because they were easy :)

My last finish of the year was this ATC I stitched for ATC swap organised thru Instagram

I entered 2026 with 3 cross stitch WIPs and 1 knitted WIP . The knitted WIP was finished last night. Hoping to finish the other WIPs soon(read in 2026)

I will add details of each finish on my finish pages if anyone is interested in pattern names.

Motif Cards and Washcloths

Hello Friends, 

Hope you are doing well. Where is time going this year.. can't believe we are in mid of the year . 

I wanted to share details of finishes I had last month , the gifts I sent to my colleagues in USA.

I visited my USA office in March and wanted to thank two of my colleagues for their hospitality . As with us crafters, we prefer to make something with hand as thank you gifts rather than store bought items, I thought of making a personalized wash cloth and something of cross stitch for them.

I found perfect yarn in my stash from my time in Kuwait  , and made these wash cloths with initials of their first name.

Then I started thinking of which motif to stitch for my colleagues from the SAL. I stitched two motifs from Cliffside stitches Heritage Motifs Stitch-Along . I came to know about this SAL in December and thought of stitching motifs of countries I have visited for myself.

Ms. J shared how much she enjoyed her vacation in Italy with her family while we were chatting during my visit. So ,I picked this blackwork version of a Italian motif  to celebrate that. 

For Ms. K ,I chose cross stitched version of a Indian motif to remind her that she always has a friend in India.

Now the funny part is my initial plan was to finish these motifs in tiny pillows/ornaments. Well, that didn't work out, I couldn't find a perfect backing fabric to use. Also , I realized that stiff aida isn't ideal when using hand sewing to make ornaments. Another thing I learned is its better to use colored fabric to stitch on when making ornaments , buttons and laces look good on colored background instead of white.

Do you any such experiences or advice on this?

After the stitching finished and I had above realization, I got disheartened and almost gave up. Hubby suggested to sleep over it..voila it worked. Next morning I woke up with a new finishing idea , to finish as these cards /postcards . I found perfect material for the Indian motif, an old wedding card. Love upcycling !!!

The Italian Motif is finished using Colorbok designer paper . 

I packed these with some Indian souvenirs and dry snacks .

Happy to say that my colleagues liked the gifts.

How did I do for "Stitch every 'Day' in 'May' " ?

 Hello Friends,

Hope you are doing well.

My personal goal was to Stitch every 'Day' in 'May'. I'm very happy to report that I was able to stitch/craft on 29 days out of 31 days of the month. I'm realizing that setting this personal goal helps me come out of my comfort zone(read laziness) .
My main focus was to finish creating gifts for my colleagues . I had a deadline as I had asked one of colleagues in Mumbai to carry the gifts with him. You see I don't trust the postal system to send handmade stuff by mail.  

Here is what I made for them :

For Ms. J -Blackwork version of  a Italian motif  to celebrate her recent vacation to Italy and a wash cloth with her initial

For Ms. K -Cross stitched version of a Indian motif to remind her that she always has a friend in India and a wash cloth with her initial.

Happy to report I managed to finish a gift for a friend's 40th birthday. The gift is late only by 1 year 5 months 😀

Meanwhile , I was chatting with a fellow Indian cross stitcher on Instagram and we agreed to do a SAL from 1st June...details to follow .

This gave me a chance to pick my oldest WIP, Indian Peacock by Dimensions .I started this piece on 1st January 2017. I last stitched it on 31st May 2020.Here are the progress photos.

Hello from Kansas City!!!

Hello and almost bye from Kansas City !!! 4 hrs until I leave for airport to start my 30 hour journey for home.

This is my second time visiting Kansas city , both times for work.

Interesting fact about Kansas city is it lies between two states -Missouri and Kansas. I go to work and stay in different cities :)

I couldn't have asked for a better weather to visit...my cold weather loving body enjoyed it so much.

I got to see a blizzard with snow, super hot sunny days, winds upto 50mph and rain..all in 12 days. And its snowing as I write the blog.

This time I got to do one of my most favourite things - attend a craft meetup at a local craft cafe when travelling to a new country. I have done that before twice in past, I just realised may be I didn't share about it.

Last time I visited Kansas city , I came with colleagues so didn't think of doing my hobby stuff...however this time I started looking up yarn /craft stores, meetups a month in advance.

I asked my one and only local friend if she would like to attend a meetup, she agreed. So last Saturday we drove to this quaint yarn store who hosts social hours regularly. The day I went there, there was a trunk show.

To my surprise , it was a big turn out. We almost ran out of space to sit. 20 + people sat in this beautiful cafe knitting, crocheting , chatting for 2 hours. Oh I loved it!!!

I have talked about attending meetups during my travels, and people have told me its a novel idea.. most people don't even think of that. My friend  was surprised to know how many craft stores I knew her city. 

After the meetup , we went for lunch...I will cover that in my next post..

Gifted Gorgeousness SAL October 2020 update

 Hello Friends,

It's that time of the month when we show what gifts we have been working on or/and what crafty gifts we have received. If you don't know what I'm talking about , check Jo's blog for more info. This is an easy SAL where you have a choice to stitch any designer, color or pattern, just that it should be a gift for someone or gift from someone.

I have a small gift to show you this month . I was finally able to stitch and send a flower for Clare's flower bouqet. Second week of March I found Clare's post where she asked "Could you help me make a bouquet?". I emailed her about the requirements and address. 

And then the pandemic started. Mail service was shut down from March to July. When mail service resumed in August, I sent  a test mail to UK to see if things were working. Thankfully the mail reached and I started stitching flower for Clare's bouqet.

I'm glad to report the Clare received the flower .This is Amanda Gregory's pattern taken from Ultimate CrossStitch Flowers, 2016. The magazine was a free gift for I-phone users.

Cross stitching has taken a back seat and I have been participating in snail mail and postcard swaps.

Not cross stitch related but I though I will share with you guys anyways.

In July, I participated in Junk Mail swap. The idea was to use stuff we have in our stash and not buy anything new.

I made a coaster from an old T-shirt , upcycled some packing materials to make postcards and envelopes.I also made these Yo Yos from extra fabric I had from a dress.

In September I participated in Rain postcard swap. I didn't have any printed postcard for the theme, so I decided to draw some.

October was Mini Autumn swap, again I didn't have any printed postcard for the theme, so I decided to draw some. The requirement of the swap was to write a letter, include a bookmark or tag . Thankfully I had a perfect bookmark , which I made in May, for the theme.

Happy to report all the swap packages were well received. I had so much fun making these packages , it pushed me to try my hands at doodling , not to mention take a good look at my stationary stash.

The pandemic situation hasn't improved in my city , however things are opening up for business now.

How did I do for "Stitch every 'Day' in 'May' "

Hello Friends,
May month has come to an end, I hope 'Maynia' in the cross stitch world has settled down. I have enjoyed looking at the various versions of Maynia . I hope you enjoyed whatever version you followed, after all its about enjoyment right?
My personal goal was to Stitch every 'Day' in 'May'. I'm very happy to report that I was able to stitch/craft on 29 days out of 31 days of the month. I'm realising that setting this personal goal helps me come out of my comfort zone(read laziness) .
My main focus was to make some progress on my oldest WIP, Indian Peacock by Dimensions.I added 3711 stitches, full and half, to the project and the progress is clearly visible.

I started and finished a small project for our anniversary which I showed in my last post.

I also knitted these bookmarks from left over yarn , such a quick project.

A new craft learnt and key ring made.

I think I will try to stitch every day in June as well as the lock down has extended my part of the country. My city is the worst hit in the world and numbers are rising by thousands every day. Its a scary situation, thank God for our crafts to keep us sane.

Hello beautiful people of the blog world,

Its last day of the year and decade 😊.

This year I'm no mood of looking back and accounting my achievements or learnings etc. Neither do I have any resolutions...I just want to be happy whatever year or day it is.

2019 surely brought a lot of changes in my life-Left Kuwait, Moved to India,moved into a new home,decided to take a break in my professional career, crafting bug missing...

The obvious reason I have not posted on my blog is that I haven't been crafting...I have been travelling a lot, attending weddings, entertaining guests and pursuing my hobby of snail mailing. No complaints here..just enjoying this phase.

I thought of posting for the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL today before its too late.

I finished a beanie for myself , as the pattern is a free one from the designer , I'm including this for GG SAL.

The people at Immediate media company were kind  enough to offer January 2019 issue of CrossStitch Crazy magazine and December 2019 issue of The World of Cross Stitching  magazine on the first weekend of this month.

So , I'm shoe horning these as gifts too...
